Dress Code 2006-2007

Name Must Be On All Clothing

Responsibility: The primary responsibility for the personal appearance and dress of each student rests with the parents. The school staff shall determine and intervene when a student’s personal hygiene, appearance, or dress is such that it disrupts or interferes with the educational process or endangers the health or safety of the student or others.

General guidelines: Students are expected to take pride in their personal appearance and to be clean and well groomed at all times. Uniform clothing items must be obtained through the school’s supplier. The school has selected these uniform items for their higher durability and colorfastness compared to store-bought items. APPROXIMATIONS OR SUBSTITUTIONS ARE NOT PERMITTED!

All clothing and other uniform items must be kept clean and in good condition.  Faded, discolored or worn items must be replaced. Students are permitted to wear older uniform items (such as those with previous logos) so long as the items fit well, are in good condition, and were purchased from our supplier.

Regular uniform: The regular uniform is worn every day including Mass days.

All students must wear white socks with school shoes with their regular uniform. (See “Socks” and “Shoes” later in this section for more information.)

Girls: K-5 will wear plaid jumpers with white blouses or plaid shorts, culottes, or blue pants and belt with white golf shirts with school logo, solid navy, forest green, or white sweater or sweatshirt.

Girls: Gr. 6-8 will wear the white, yellow or green logo polo shirt with uniform khaki skorts, skirts, shorts or pants. (See “Pants” later in this section for more information.)

Boys: K-5 will wear navy dress pants or uniform dress shorts with belt, white golf shirt with school logo. Solid navy, green, or white sweater or sweatshirt is acceptable

Boys: Gr. 6-8 wear the white, yellow or green logo polo shirt with uniform khaki shorts or pants. (See “Pants” later in this section for more information.)

Hair: Students’ hair must be clean and neatly combed. Hair fads or unnatural colors are never permitted. Boys’ hair must not cover the ear nor be longer than the top of the shirt collar nor touch the eyebrows. Girls may wear simple white, green or pale yellow hair ties to match their school uniform shirts.

Hats: Students may NOT wear hats.

Make-up: Students may NOT wear make-up, acrylic nails or nail polish.

Jewelry: Girls may wear one stud earring in each ear. Hoops, dangling or oversized earrings are not allowed. Boys are never allowed to wear earrings. No bracelets, rings, necklaces or chains, choker collars, ankle bracelets, visible or simulated body piercings or tattoos are allowed. A simple watch is allowed for boys and girls.  A Crucifix is allowed.

Wrist Bands:  Students may not wear wrist bands.

Shirts: Shirts must be buttoned to the second button and be tucked in at all times, so that the belt or waistband is visible from all sides.

Ties: Boys’ ties must be neatly knotted when worn.

Pants, skirts, shorts & skorts: Uniform pants, skirts,  shorts and skorts must be well fitted at the waist. Tight, baggy, or otherwise ill-fitting items are not permitted. Shorts must be longer than the student’s extended fingers when in a standing position but must not extend past the knee.  Skirts and skorts must be no higher than 3 inches above the back of the knee. Pants, skirts, shorts and skorts MUST be khaki in color and MUST be purchased from our supplier. (See Purchasing Uniforms).

Belts: A khaki cloth or brown or black leather belt must be worn with pants or shorts.

Socks: Students must wear logo – free white socks that cover the ankle. Footies or socks that are folded or rolled to expose the ankle are not permitted. No fringe, bows, beads, or other decorations are allowed on socks

Boys in grades K-5 will wear navy or black oxfords. The middle school shoe is a solid black or brown leather logo-free tie or loafer shoe for boys and girls.  Shoes must always be kept clean and in good condition. Shoes must be tied with a visible bow.  No athletic shoes or leather sneakers are acceptable for regular uniform.

PE:  Regulation gym uniforms.  Solid navy, green, black or white warm-up suits may be worn on cold days over the PE uniform.  Shirts must be tucked in.  Athletic shoes with laces are required.  Shorts may not be rolled or pulled down at the waist.  Jewelry cannot be worn.

Cold weather: Our uniform vendor offers a variety of items for use during cold weather. Students are expected to wear these items to and from school as well as during the day. Sweaters or sweatshirts and sweatpants must be uniform-approved items.

Free-Dress: From time to time, students may be awarded a Free-Dress Day and will not be required to wear their uniforms. Free-Dress Day passes may never be used on a day there is Mass.  On free-dress days and at other times when students are not required to wear their uniforms, certain clothing is considered inappropriate to wear.
