Dress Code 2006-2007
Name Must Be On All Clothing
Responsibility:
The primary responsibility for the personal appearance and dress of
each student rests with the parents. The school staff shall determine and
intervene when a student’s personal hygiene, appearance, or dress is
such that it disrupts or interferes with the educational process or
endangers the health or safety of the student or others.
General
guidelines: Students are expected to take pride in their personal appearance
and to be clean and well groomed at all times. Uniform clothing items must
be obtained through the school’s supplier. The school has selected these
uniform items for their higher durability and colorfastness compared to
store-bought items. APPROXIMATIONS OR SUBSTITUTIONS ARE NOT PERMITTED!
All
clothing and other uniform items must be kept clean and in good condition.
Faded, discolored or worn items must be replaced. Students are
permitted to wear older uniform items (such as those with previous logos)
so long as the items fit well, are in good condition, and were purchased
from our supplier.
Regular
uniform: The regular uniform is worn every day including Mass days.
All
students must wear white socks with school shoes with their regular
uniform. (See “Socks” and “Shoes” later in this section for more
information.)
Girls: K-5 will wear
plaid jumpers with white blouses or plaid shorts, culottes, or blue pants
and belt with white golf shirts with school logo, solid navy, forest
green, or white sweater or sweatshirt.
Girls: Gr. 6-8 will
wear
the white, yellow or green logo polo shirt with uniform khaki skorts,
skirts, shorts or pants. (See “Pants” later in this section for more
information.)
Boys: K-5 will wear
navy dress pants or uniform dress shorts with belt, white golf shirt with
school logo. Solid navy, green, or white
sweater or sweatshirt is acceptable
Boys: Gr. 6-8
wear
the white, yellow or green logo polo shirt with uniform khaki shorts or
pants. (See “Pants” later in this section for more information.)
Hair:
Students’ hair must be clean and neatly combed. Hair fads or
unnatural colors are never permitted. Boys’ hair must not cover the ear
nor be longer than the top of the shirt collar nor touch the eyebrows.
Girls may wear simple white, green or pale yellow hair ties to match their
school uniform shirts.
Hats:
Students may NOT wear hats.
Make-up:
Students
may NOT wear make-up, acrylic nails or nail polish.
Jewelry:
Girls
may wear one stud earring in each ear. Hoops, dangling or oversized
earrings are not allowed. Boys are never allowed to wear earrings.
No
bracelets, rings, necklaces or chains, choker collars, ankle bracelets,
visible or simulated body piercings or tattoos are allowed.
A
simple watch is allowed for boys and girls.
A Crucifix is allowed.
Wrist
Bands: Students may not wear wrist bands.
Shirts:
Shirts must be buttoned to the second button and be tucked in at
all times, so that the belt or waistband is visible from all sides.
Ties:
Boys’ ties must be neatly knotted when worn.
Pants,
skirts, shorts & skorts: Uniform pants,
skirts, shorts and skorts must
be
well fitted at the waist. Tight, baggy, or otherwise ill-fitting items are
not permitted. Shorts must be longer than the student’s extended fingers
when in a standing position but must not extend past the knee.
Skirts and skorts must be no higher than 3 inches above the back of
the knee. Pants, skirts, shorts and skorts MUST be khaki in color
and MUST be purchased from our supplier. (See Purchasing Uniforms).
Belts:
A khaki cloth or brown or black leather belt must be worn with
pants or shorts.
Socks:
Students must wear logo – free white socks that cover the ankle.
Footies or socks that are folded or rolled to expose the ankle are
not permitted. No fringe, bows, beads, or other decorations are
allowed on socks
Shoes: Kindergarten
girls will wear solid navy or black leather logo-free buckle shoes. Girls
in grades 1-5 will wear solid navy or black logo-free leather tie or
buckle shoes. Boys in grades K-5 will wear navy or black oxfords. The middle school shoe is a
solid black or brown leather logo-free tie or loafer shoe for boys and
girls. Shoes must always be
kept clean and in good condition. Shoes must be tied with a visible bow.
No athletic shoes or leather sneakers are acceptable for
regular uniform.
PE: Regulation gym uniforms. Solid
navy, green, black or white warm-up suits may be worn on cold days over
the PE uniform. Shirts must be tucked in. Athletic shoes with
laces are required. Shorts may not be rolled or pulled down at the
waist. Jewelry cannot be worn.
Cold
weather: Our uniform vendor offers a variety of items for use during cold
weather. Students are expected to wear these items to and from school as
well as during the day. Sweaters or sweatshirts and sweatpants must be
uniform-approved items.
Free-Dress:
From time to time, students may be awarded a Free-Dress Day and
will not be required to wear their uniforms. Free-Dress Day passes may
never be used
on
a day there is Mass. On
free-dress days and at other times when students are not required to wear
their uniforms, certain clothing is considered inappropriate to wear. This
includes:
INAPPROPRIATE:
tops with plunging necklines or
spaghetti straps
shirts that are too tight or expose the
midriff
cut-offs
jeans with rips, tears, or holes
tight or baggy pants or shorts
skirts, shorts, skorts, etc. which are
shorter than students’ normal uniform items
(i.e.: shorter than 3 inches above the back of the knee).
flip flops or open backed shoes.
sleeveless shirts, tops, blouses and dresses
In
the event that a member of the school staff notices students with
inappropriate clothing, it will be treated as any other uniform violation.
Additionally, the student will
lose
the privilege of participating in future free-dress days.
Inappropriate
messages: Clothing that displays suggestive or otherwise inappropriate
messages is never permitted.
Violation
policy
Students
will be sent to the office to phone their parent to bring the correct
uniform. On the second and subsequent instances, a detention will be
issued. Additionally, the student will lose the privilege of participating
in future free-dress days.
