Incarnation Programs
The resource coordinator at each diocesan
school implements programs and teaches strategies that benefit the entire
school population. The
coordinator here at Incarnation is Sandy Caliendo.
Life Skills
Grade
6 Students will learn study skills including, organization,
note-taking, memory strategies, test-taking strategies and textbook
reading comprehension during quarters one, two and three. The fourth
quarter will be taught by the guidance counselor.
Grade
7 During the first and second quarters, students will be
introduced to various learning differences including, Attention Deficit
Disorder, Dyslexia and Learning Disabilities. The purpose is to help
the students be aware that everyone learns differently and to have an
understanding and empathy towards those who have these differences.
The third and fourth quarters are taught by the guidance counselor.
Grade 8 The guidance counselor will teach the first,
second and third quarters. During the fourth quarter, the students
will focus on high school preparation. The topics will include, high
school curriculum, community service, SAT preparation, extra-curricular
activities and the importance of the G.P.A.
Strategy Teaching
Learning strategies are taught at least once a quarter in each
classroom, K-8, by the resource teacher or the classroom teacher. These
strategies include but are not limited to,
memorizing, self monitoring, organizing and socializing.
Good Samaritan Awards
Good Samaritan awards are given to middle school students for
extraordinary acts of courtesy and kindness. At the end of each quarter,
awards are tallied and students receive rewards according to the number
earned. Examples of rewards are lunch from McDonald's, ice cream treats
and other goodies. Students are also recognized
during the awards assembly.
