Testing Day: Thursday
Students
will explore the eight parts of speech, punctuation and capitalization
usage, study skills, research skills, genres of writing, and the
structure and development of sentences and paragraphs using the McGraw
Hill Language Arts series and Glencoe Grammar &
Composition Handbook.
Literature
and reading comprehension skills are developedusing Prentice Hall Literature Series Timeless
Voices, Timeless
Themes. In addition, the following novels
will be studied:

6: The Endless Steppe by Esther Hautzig and A Gathering of Days
by Joan Blos
Grade
7: Johnny Tremain by Esther Forbes and A Separate Peace by
Grade
8: Lord of the Flies by William Golding and Much Ado About Nothing
by William Shakespeare
Vocabulary
Building will rely on The Sadlier Series
workbooks. There are weekly vocabulary quizzes,
plus accompanying
homework. Vocabulary homework pages are due on Wednesday
and unit quizzes on Thursday, unless
another LA test is scheduled.
The middle
school grades will now practice handwriting as pre-class work or as a
homework assignment.
Each marking period
1 to 2 pieces of writing will be critiqued and graded using a scoring rubric.

ACCELERATED
READING
Through reading, new vistas
of understanding and enjoyment can be found. You may explore the universe,
travel through time, encounter the wisdom of great thinkers or enjoy the
creativity and excitement of fictional characters and places. So join the
AR adventure!
Each quarter you will
be asked to meet certain goals. These goals are meant to be a
reflection of your reading level, and therefore, should be challenging yet
manageable. Those who meet their quarterly goal will receive a Jeans Day
Pass. There is also a Middle School Trophy, which goes weekly to the class
earning the most AR points.

Homework
Policy: All homework is due on the assigned day. Late work will receive a
10% grade deduction. Missing assignments must be made up the next day or the
grade will result in a zero. Students are responsible for their work, so it
is important to frequently check EDLINE
(www.edline.net) for missing assignments.
Absence
Policy:
Students, for the most part, should be ready to take quizzes and to turn in
homework on the day they return to school. Exceptions will be granted on
an individual basis, especially where prolonged absences have occurred.
Re-test
Policy: For those receiving a 70% or below on a test, re-testing will be
allowed if an approved 3 Day Study Plan is turned in on the day of
testing. The new grade will be an average of both test grades.
